In addition to the Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen cable car area, as the only Austrian organisation taking part, the ski regions of Adelboden (Switzerland), Malbun (Liechtenstein) and Oberstdorf (Germany) were given awards for their participation in the ecology audit.
The ecology audit is a comprehensive environmental inspection. The Planai-Bahnen were able, as the first skiing region, to take up the position of the "green cable car companies” and already voluntarily subjected themselves to this "Ecological Ski Region Audit" in 2002. During the audit, all the areas of the company were inspected with regard to their environmental friendliness. The inspection covered aspects such as the number of varieties of plants on the ski pistes through the breeding behaviour of birds up to reforestation of the entire area. The successfully completed Ecology Audit with certificate testifies to the fact that the operations of Planai-Bahnen are excellent in every respect as regards the environment.
Thanks to the support of the four ski regions, it was possible for the "Pro Natura" foundation to develop a guideline for qualitative improvement of ski regions in general from the point of view of ecology.
