581 Snow Makers in Use What would Schladming be without snow? Like Lake Wörther without any water. And to insure that this does not happen, Planai-Bahnen (Rail) will once again heavily invest in its snow makers – even though it already possesses one of the most powerful snow makers in the Alps. Starting from November 2007, 581 snow lances and snow cannons will be “fired”, once again featuring the snowing capacity. Amongst other things, the current investment reduces snowing time. As of this winter, it will therefore be possible to produce base snow within approx. 70 hours for the skiing mountains of Planai and Hochwurzen.
Planai + 40% more snowing capacity, Hochwurzen +30% more snowing capacity The snowing capacity on both Planai and Hochwurzen will be suitably increased. As of November 2007, the output of will be increased by 40% on Planai and by 30% on Hochwurzen. In total, the skiable area will be 100% snowed. The skiable area amounts to 205 ha, which is equal to a total area of over 400 football fields. 191.000 m3 of snow can be produced per day, if needs be and if conditions are optimal. This is equal to an unbelievable amount of 19.000 truckloads of snow per day. In the past 10 years, over € 70 mln have been invested in the infrastructural projects on the Planai and Hochwurzen mountains.
