The Dachstein Ice Palace enables the visitors to dive into the hidden world of a glaicer. The ice palace opens a completely new world made out of ice. It took over one year to complete the ice palace. The throne room is particularly impressive. The portal of the Greek Acropolis has been eternalized in ice. The ice palace leads you in to the inner depths of Dachstein. In a round tour, visitors will be able to admire such attractions like the “throne room”, the “crystal dome” or the “blue salon”. At the entrance, visitors are introduced, in a simple and comprehendible manner, the emergence of a glacier.
The lighting system uses fibre lighting, and the mystical acoustic irradiation rounds off the entire experience in eternal ice. In addition, special ice figures await guests: the stars of the film “Ice Age” – Diego, Sid, Manny and Scrat are also frosty inhabitants at the ice palace. The icy individual works of art weight up to 700 kg. Five famous Chinese ice carvers were busy with the detail work as of May 2007. For weeks, they were busy creating the impressive giant mammoth, porticos, entrance portals and throne hall with a lot of detail.

The new Sky Walk Fixed Rope Route with the difficulty level of E (very difficult) is an absolute display. It runs extremely suspended through steep, overhanging declines, directly up to the Dachstein cable car mountain station. The new fixed rope route has been confirmed by experts that it is one of the most difficult facilities in the eastern Alps. With an overall length of 320 meters, one has to overcome an altitude difference of 170 meters. It is definite adrenaline rushes for all fixed rope route fans, to embark on this route under the watchful eyes of the cable car passengers, and maybe to even earn an applause at the end!

The Dachstein Sky Walk is worth an excrusion during any season! On clear days atop the spectacular Dachstein viewing platform, the view extends all the way to Slovenia’s Triglav Mountains in the south and to Böhmer Forest in the north.

Every Thursday from June 26 to September 11, 2008, the Dachstein cable cars bring you to the Dachstein glacier in the early mornings, so that the guests are able to experience the sun rise first hand. Afterward, there is a breakfast buffet in the Gletscherrestaurant (Glacier Restaurant). From September 18 to October 23, 2008, the sunset rides run on the Dachstein glacier.

Under the title "Hoch vom Dachstein", the shooting program for a 35 minute documentary described the highest mountain in Styria.
The team of ORF Styria – director Robert Sturmer, cameraman Erhard Seidl and assistant Mik Mikula – also got a chance to meet Dachstein’s frosty side. Temperatures around minus 25 degrees and heavy snow truly challenged both man and technology. The viewers, however, were able to enjoy an impressive film with beautiful pictures of nature, spectacular deep power snow runs, picturesque ski tours, the future plans of Dachstein, as well as historical topics. At the centre of the documentary were the employees of Dachstein, who work everyday on roof of Styria. Locals were also a part of the film, and they were able to tell their own personal stories about Dachstein.

In the summer of 2004, the fixed rope route was created by Ramsau mountain guide Hans Prugger and his colleagues at the initiative of Dachstein cable cars. 

Since the beginning of the summer season of 2004, the Dachstein base station and its cable cars have been given a new shine.

In the meantime,“brand-new” endless rope haulage has been completed. The new station has been scaled up (north) and has been placed next to the base station on the east side. The “old and ugly” wooden support has been replaced by a modern construction made out of steel. The new rail is equipped with up-to-ate technology and is really a true gem.  

In cooperation with local mountain guides and the Alpine Club, many new climbing routes and tours have been created. The reactions of the mountain climbers were very positive. Furthermore, a large cooperation with a publisher specializing in climbing has been achieved in order to further invigorate this product.

The Dachstein Super park has established itself in the snowboard scene. Dachstein is aiming to become THE boarder destination.

Despite adverse conditions but due to our increased flexibility, we still manage to offer 8 km of cross country ski runs as of mid-September. The fantastic efforts of the Dachstein – Planai team brought back cross country teams, who have already travelled to Finland, to Dachstein.
