The Ski Area

PLANAI & HOCH WURZEN
Centre of the Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Swing

Largest skiing destination in Styria
Both skiing mountains, Planai and Hochwurzen, in Schladming and Rohrmoos are by far the largest and most famous skiing destination in Styria. Every day, over 15.000 guests can easily move around the ski region.

PLANAI
On the Planai, sporty skiers and speedy slope racers are truly in their element. Legendary is the 4,6 km long Fis descent from the summit of the Planai down into the valley of the famous Planai target slope as the final crowning moment. However, more relaxed winter athletes are also as happy as clams to be on the broad, inviting slopes, or on the continuous racing course of the “Quick Shot Slope”. The tavern “Planai Genussspechte” provides one with the needed refreshments between times.

HOCHWURZEN
Skiers, snowboarders, tobogganists, and winter hikers take off from Hochwurzen – day and night! Broad, long descents sets skiers’ hearts racing, beginners and families are content with offers for children and easier slopes. The evening continues on with evening tobogganing (7 km long toboggan run), night skiing (3 km of flood light slopes) and Après Ski! Snowboarders and freestyle-skiers can indulge themselves on the Playground Hochwurzen!

Austrian Leading Company
The Planai-Bahnen (Planai Rails) is the leading Austrian company in the cable car branch. Many innovations came from Planai-Bahnen, which were later employed all over Austria. It was a pioneer in the development of snowing facilities (first attempts as early as 1978), greening ski slopes (development of own alpine seed mixes for long-term tests), creating the most up-to-date ascent supports, constructing a chat-room at a height of 1900 m, as well as the successful introduction of the first “Ski ECG” (Electrocardiogram) in the Austrian ski region during the 2004/2005 season! The new cable car facilities “Golden Jet”, with its special architecture, sets new highlights at the valley station.
